Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Christian Poulsen.

The Denmark international has been perennially linked with a move to Anfield over the previous two summers, most notably before Xabi Alonso finalised his move to Real Madrid last year, and could be in line to replace Javier Mascherano in the Reds' defensive midfield.

Fiery Poulsen was left out of the Bianconeri's Europa League qualifier with Shamrock Rovers last night but, speaking after the game, Marotta claims that the 30-year-old's omission was a tactical decision and not due to interest expresed by Roy Hodgson or the Liverpool board.

"Liverpool have shown interest in Poulsen," he said.

"But the fact that he did not play in this game is only due to a technical decision."
