Everton Tigers back on track

Everton Tigers registered their first win in four games as they swept aside the Worthing Thunder on the South Coast to keep up the pressure on the top four in the BBL Championship.

Jerome Gumbs led the scoring for the impressive Tigers with 24 points but there were also significant contributions from James Jones and Olu Babalola who netted 20 and 18 points respectively.

The visiting Tigers were dominant from the early stages and never looked back. They raced into a 7-24 lead with Trey Moore and Olu Babalola scoring seven points each during the spell.

The hosts found their range in the second quarter, but they couldn’t keep pace with the Tigers, who had put an unbelievable 65 points on the board by half time - scoring 16 of those off turnovers.

Gumbs scored seven points early in the period to stretch the lead to 24-46, and he had 17 points by the half way point.

The Tigers continued the pace after the break as the lead peaked at 51-82 after Andrew Thompson's triple and an Adam Williams score.

But as impressive as the Tigers were, the Thunder still had the scoreboard ticking over rapidly and narrowed the deficit to below 20 as Kadiri Richard scored 4 in a 6-2 start to the final quarter.

They scored another 6 points in a row to make it 78-95, but that was as close as they would get. The Tigers weathered that as James Jones sent them through the century mark with a three-pointer with 7.30 remaining and they saw the game out.

Everton Tigers are back on the road tonight (Monday 15th March) as they visit the Sheffield Sharks at the EIS in Sheffield for a 7:30 tip.
