Everton Tigers are set for a return to the Echo Arena in time for Christmas as they look to continue their ascent up the British Basketball League.
The Tigers, who finished second in the league last season, will take on current league leaders Sheffield Sharks on Friday 18th December.
Thousands of fans are expected to turn out to watch last season’s BBL cup winners, with past Arena games attracting 5,000 people to the venue.
Merseyside’s only professional basketball team will be hoping to continue their good form at the Arena after notching a victory over the Guildford Heat back in October, putting an end to their previous three game losing streak on the waterfront.
The Tigers will be out for revenge after they felt the sharp end of the Sharks’ bite earlier this month as they dumped the team out of this season’s BBL Cup with a dramatic overtime win.
Everton Tigers Chairman Martyn Best said: “We have a new exciting team this year and we want as many fans as possible to see them. We’re building our fan base really well this season, and the Arena gives more people the opportunity to watch exciting top flight basketball and enjoy an electric atmosphere.
“We hope that our fans will see this as a great way to start their Christmas week, and with it being the last day of school for many students, what better place to start the holidays.
“The game against Sheffield will be particularly interesting with them having beaten us last week, and playing such good basketball. I won’t say that it’s the “grudge before Christmas”, as we do have a great rapport with all the Sheffield guys, but we will certainly be looking to even honours up.”
