Everton Tigers head coach Tony Garbelotto is targeting two wins this weekend to kick start his teams ascent up the BBL table after their two week lay-off.
The Tigers tip-off their double header of fixtures at home against Guildford Heat on Friday evening in what will be the third meeting between the sides in less than a month.
They then face making the long trip to the south coast to play the Plymouth Raiders on Sunday.
Having so far endured a stuttering start to the new BBL campaign the Tigers boss believes that positive results this weekend could be just the catalyst they need to start showing their true potential.
He said: “We have to view this as an ideal opportunity to get our season up and running and I believe these are two very winnable games.
“We have so far failed to play anywhere near the level we know we can and I think our early season results have reflected that so we need to start putting that right, starting on Friday.
Having tasted victory over their Surrey rivals at the Echo Arena, the Tigers succumbed to a revenge attack a fortnight ago as the Heat levelled the three game series at one win a piece.
The Tigers boss is happy to be playing a side his players will know all about after their earlier meetings: “At the start of every season you want to make sure you come out on top in all the head to head records as come play-off time it will be very important.
“To be playing Guildford three times so early may not be such a bad thing for us at this stage of our development as our players and staff will know all about them and the type of things they will try and do on the court.”
Having experienced a disappointing start to the season Sunday’s opponents Plymouth Raiders will be buoyed after beating Newcastle Eagles last time out to record their first home win of the season.
Garbelotto is well aware of the threat the Raiders will pose and believes there will be more surprise results due to the overall strength of the league.
“For them to beat the Eagles just goes to show how difficult this league is and proves that there is going to be no easy games.
“Plymouth is one of the hardest places to go in the BBL. Even though they have had a poor start from their point of view but we know there a quality outfit with a superb coach who will have his players ready to go come game time.”
