Jermaine Beckford scores twices as Everton coast to an impressive 3-O friendly win over Preston at Deepdale.

David Moyes' men maintained their 100 per cent pre-season record with a fully deserved victory over Darren Ferguson's Championship side.

Beckford, a free transfer signing from Leeds, set the Toffees on their way in the 56th minute, with a cool finish past North End goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, after being played through on goal by Phil Jagielka's powerful header.

Everton moved 2-0 ahead in the 67th minute when striker Louis Saha collected a pass from Phil Neville and rifled home a well crafted shot.

Three minutes later, the Frenchman then turned provider as he set up Beckford for a fine volley in front of the visiting fans.

However he was later clattered in a tackle with Preston's Adam Barton and substituted in the closing stages after appearing to suffer an ankle injury.

The first half saw a host of decent chances from French striker Saha, who forced Andy Lonergan into a number of smart saves.

Saha looked in sharp mood - as he followed up with another strike on goal which hit the post.

New signing Magaye Guaye, was also in the starting eleven and looked lively down the left hand side battling with Preston's Danny Mayor, before firing a couple of shots on goals for his efforts.

Midfielder Jack Rodwell and Mikel Arteta muscled in on the shooting action but couldn't produce efforts on target to really test Lonergan.

In the second half, Moyes introduced Jermaine Beckford and Seamus Coleman, who was one of the best performers in Australia, n place of Arteta and Baines.

Everton's overall quality began to show as Jagielka’s headed clearance found it’s way through a sea of players to Jermaine Beckford, who fired home his first for theToffees.

Eager to match his strike partner, Saha got the goal his efforts merited in the 67th minute, with a classy strike from the Frenchman.

Shortly after, the two goalscorers combined to clinical effect - Saha producing a tantalising chip for Beckford to smash home with a fierce volley from eight yards.

David Moyes, a former manager at Preston North End introduced a host of substitutions includin; James Vaughan, Jose Baxter and James Wallace.

In the latter stages, Evertonians were given the opportunity to get their first glimpse of Portuguese forward Joao Silva, who was called upon to replace the injured Beckford.

we do look & play like a prem side, now come on preston its about time we got in the prem like the rest of the surronding teams.
