Everton are ready to offload young gun James Vaughan to Bolton for a reported £1m.
Neil Lennon, the new Celtic boss, was thought to be interested in Vaughan, who has struggled with a long list of injuries since breaking through to the Everton first team as a sixteen year old.
But the Hoops, who were seeking a loan deal, look to have been beaten to their man by Owen Coyle who wants to secure the youngster on a permanent transfer.
Vaughan became the league's youngest ever goalscorer when he broke James Milner's record in 2005, a record previously held by another Everton academy player, Wayne Rooney.
But he has failed to make an impact at first team level, despite a spate of promising appearances from the bench, largely due to his poor fitness record.
David Moyes, who has already signed two strikers this summer, has allowed to Vaughan out on loan deals to Coventry and Derby County in previous seasons, and a cash return on the player could represent good business for the Blues, should the deal be completed.
