Baines makes England Squad as Jagielka is snubbed.

Everton defender Leighton Baines will be overjoyed this evening as news of his inclusion in England's 30-man provisional World Cup squad were announced.

It's the second bit of good news in two weeks for the former Wigan man who has just been voted players' player of the year at the Blues' annual end of season awards.

Baines has earned the praise of his team mates after his most successful season in a blue shirt making 37 starts in the league and scoring twice.

As Baines celebrates his call up however, centre half Phil Jagielka will be feeling bitterly disappointed at a long spell on the sidelines this season ruling him out of what would have surely been a plane ticket to South Africa.

Jagielka has been left out of the provisional squad as central defensive slots were handed to Tottenham pair Ledley King and Michael Dawson and also to Jamie Carragher who will come out of international retirement to play under Fabio Capello.

Everton are well represented elsewhere with Tim Cahill being named in the Australian squad, Yakubu, Victor Anichebe and Joseph Yobo making the Nigeria Squad, John Heitinga named for Holland and Steven Pienaar included for host nation South Africa.

There was to be no surprise call up for Mikel Arteta who missed out on the Spain squad which was also announced today.
