If there is one thing that the crowds of Goodison Park have learnt about John Heitinga this season, it's that he's no happy bench warmer.
The combative Dutchman has been an instant hit with fans thanks to his uncompromising style in whatever utility role David Moyes has asked of him.
With a slight fracture in his ankle and a World Cup only months away, Heitinga would be forgiven for wanting to restrict his involvment on Saturday to a gentle post match lap of the pitch, scarf in hand.
But speaking to Everton's official website, Heitinga revealed his desire to be fighting fit and pushing the Blues over the finish line with a victory.
He said: "I wasn't happy when I was told I had to rest my injury because I want to play."
"I am hoping I can return for Sunday's game with Portsmouth so we will have to see before the game."
Heitinga's first season has seen him play all over Everton's midfield and defence, reflecting on his introduction to English football the Dutchman said: "I think it was a good season for me."
"It is a very different league here but I think it is perfect for us and the way we play. We all love playing for Everton and we enjoy it here at the Club."
After last weeks draw all but banished any hope of an Everton return to European football next year, Heitinga feels its important to show the Everton faithful his appreciation for thier support this year.
He said: "I will be at Goodison 100 per cent for the final game to thank the fans"
"I hope I am on the pitch and not watching from the stands. I want to play against Portsmouth."
Heitinga will be hoping to return alongside Steven Pienaar who confirmed he'll be fit for the game when he recieved his Player of the year award at the club's annual awards evening last night.
