Jack Rodwell is a target for Man Utd.
Jack Rodwell is a target for Man Utd.

Six years after losing Wayne Rooney to Manchester United, Everton's manager David Moyes is preparing for a similar blow with rumours that the Old Trafford club are preparing a double swoop for highly rated youngsters Jack Rodwell and Dan Gosling.

Both players recently scored in the Toffee's victory over United and Sir Alex Ferguson was clearly impressed enough to persuade United's American owners to supply him with £20million to land the pair.

Ferguson sees Rodwell as key to United's future as he looks to a time without ageing stars Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. The United manager is also keen to prevent rivals Manchester City and Chelsea from signing the highly rated Rodwell.

David Moyes is resigned to losing midfielder Rodwell, who has become a regular for the England Under 21 side, but is determined to be compensated for the loss, with a transfer fee dependent on appearances one option being mooted.

Moyes is desperate for cash as he looks to add to his squad in the summer with one of his targets reputed to be unsettled Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland.

The Everton boss has long been an admirer of the Irishman and sees him as the ideal partner for Tim Cahill.

Where does it say he's resigned to losing them? Or did you make that up so that it would sound more inevitable?
