Goodison Park will once again reverberate with chants of “USA! USA!” if outgoing Everton striker Landon Donovan has his way.

The American is set to return to LA Galaxy next month following a successful three-month spell with the Blues and was voted the club's player of the month for January. Donovan leaves Merseyside after scoring a solitary goal against Sunderland in addition to two assists against Arsenal and Chelsea.

With his short spell on Merseyside ending, the 27-year-old has vowed to return to Everton although he confesses to missing the Los Angeles lifestyle.

He said: “I would definitely imagine that I will be back here at some point in my life. I think it’s been an incredible experience and away from football, the people have been extremely nice.

“That being said, I do miss LA, I miss my team-mates there, I miss the sunshine. That’d be nice to get back there too.”

“I’m enjoying it and enjoying every day that I’m here. Every day that goes by makes me think that I want to stay here, but we’ll see what happens.”

Donovan also paid tribute to the Gwladys Street faithful for the rousing reception they gave him when he arrived at Goodison to see David Moyes' side beat Carlisle United in the FA Cup at the start of the year.

He added: “The fans, since the day I got here, have been fantastic. The day I arrived for the Carlisle match, I was really overwhelmed by how many people who were aware that I was coming and knew who I was and said ‘welcome to Everton’.

“That’s been the same with the team, the manager’s been great – everybody’s been fantastic. I think not only as a person but as a footballer as well, when you feel that it makes it a lot easier to perform on the field.”
