David Moyes believes Ross Barkley should look to Leon Osman's success at Everton for inspiration during his loan spell at Leeds United.
The 19-year-old today agreed a month-long stay with the Whites after spending a productive two months with fellow Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the campaign.
His second short-term stay with a side in the Football League mirrors that of Osman, who enjoyed spells at Carlisle United and Derby County before becoming a mainstay of the Blues' first team.
International recognition has followed for the veteran midfielder as he earned his first England call-up and senior debut during a friendly defeat to Sweden in November.
And Moyes feels Barkley, who scored four goals in 12 appearances for Wednesday, should look to the career path of his Blues team mate for motivation during his second temporary stay in Yorkshire.
He said: "Similar to Leon [who] had spells at Carlisle and Derby on loan, Ross has had a spell at Sheffield Wednesday and I said a month or two ago if I couldn't get him enough football, I want to keep his development going.
"As a young boy he didn't play because he had quite a few injuries; a triple leg break, he had a double hernia when he was younger so he missed quite a lot of football so he's the sort of boy I want to get games.
"I just don't think he's quite ready for us to be a regular in the first team here just now so if I can send him out and get the games, hopefully he comes back better and ready to play."
