Everton FC's Steven Pienaar ruled out of Merseyside derby

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has been ruled out of Sunday's Merseyside derby.

The South African was dismissed during yesterday's 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers following a second bookable ofence, despite failing to make contact with Jose Bosingwa.

The Blues cannot appeal the ruling, which means they will be without Pienaar for the showdown with Liverpool, with Bryan Oviedo expected to deputise on the left-hand side of midfield.

And David Moyes feels Jon Moss's dismissal of his player for the minimal contact on Bosingwa was unfair but also hailed his players' efforts in securing a point at Loftus Road.

He said: “It’s very, very harsh to give someone a red card for that. Incredible

"We had one like that in our last match against [Nikica] Jelavic, it was very similar, in the box against Wigan, and we didn’t get it. I think it was the wrong decision, definitely.

“It was going to make it difficult for us to win when it went to 10 but I thought we still tried to counter attack at the right moments.

"It was a big game for Queens Park Rangers as you can see, and we knew what we had to deal with.”
