David Moyes believes Jack Rodwell's sale was in the best interest of both Everton and the player.
The midfielder agreed to join Manchester City last weekend in a surprise transfer which could the Blues net up to to £15 million from the defending Premier League champions.
Rodwell was regularly touted for high hopes at Goodison Park but Moyes feels that the timing of the 21-year-old's departure to the Etihad Stadium was appropriate for all parties concerned.
He said: I'd known about it for a wee while so it was something which I thought was right for Jack [and] it was right for Everton.
"It gives us a chance to maybe do a little bit more business in the transfer market with the money so hopefully I'll try and add to the squad before the season starts.
"It gave Jack an opportunity to go to a really good club and take his chances there."
