Everton FC captain Phil Neville reveals European ambition

Phil Neville has revealed his ambition of playing European football again with Everton.

With a place in the Europa League is up for grabs for the winners of the FA Cup, the former Manchester United defender is hopeful of a return to the competition after a two-year absence.

Neville is no stranger to continental football having lifted the Champions League during his Old Trafford career, and is targeting a return for the Blues following their last 32 knockout defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the 2009/10 campaign.

With 10 points currently standing betwen Everton and the final European qualification place, the 35-year-old believes that the FA Cup represents the club's best chance of securing their return with a quarter final against Sunderland at Goodison Park ahead in the coming weeks.

"We've not been in Europe now for two seasons and I want European football," he told Everton TV.

"I've not got long left in my career and it's still one of the ambitions that I've got.

"Yes, I want to win a trophy with Everton but I also want to play in Europe with Everton again because we've had some unbelievable European nights at Goodison Park.

"I want to play in Europe and so do the rest of the team. We've got a young, ambitious team, we've got a manager who's so ambitious it's unbelievable, and European football is part of the ambition of this club.

"Part of the history of the club is winning and playing well in Europe and the FA Cup is probably our best opportunity of getting there."
