Everton today appointed former defender David Weir as a reserve team coach.
The Scotland international, 41, left Ibrox at the turn of the year and enjoyed a spell training with Sheffield United earlier this month, but has been lured back to Goodison Park by David Moyes.
Weir's first order of business since returning to his former club, where he played 269 times in eight years before leaving to ply his trade north of the border in 2007, was to feature for the Blues' second string in this afternoon's 'mini derby' with Liverpool's second string in Kirkby, which ended 1-1.
And the veteran defender, who won three Scottish league titles at Rangers, admits that returning to Merseyside has already felt like a home from home, five years since his initial departure.
"It is great to be back. It feels like coming home again," he told Everton TV.
"I had five great years in Glasgow and loved every minute of it but it is nice to be back and even after only a short time it already feels like home.
"The manager has always said there was a role here for me when I finally decided to come back.
“I was always around Finch Farm and kept in touch with him and he has given me this opportunity to help Alan Stubbs and Andy Holden with the reserves.
“I think I was at the stage where it was the right time for me. Hopefully it will develop into a good role and I can spend a lot of time here and learn from good people.
"I am glad to be here and will do whatever the manager requires. I want to pick up bits and pieces and learn, and it is a great place to do that because of the people who are here."
