A period of silence in memory of the late former Everton and Liverpool player Gary Ablett will take place before Saturday's FA Cup clash against Tamworth, at the request of the Ablett family.

Everton were due to pay their respects to the former player and coach, who died after losing his battle with cancer this week, before tomorrow evening's Premier League game against Bolton.

But the Ablett family have asked for that tribute to be held back until Saturday when Everton welcome Blue Square Premier side Tamworth to Goodison in the FA Cup, so they can be at the ground in person.

Media and Publications Manager Darren Griffiths said: “We have spoken with Gary’s family over the last two days and they have indicated that they would like to come to Goodison Park on Saturday.

"In accordance with their wishes, we will now pay our respects to Gary before we play Tamworth.”

The players will wear black armbands against Bolton and official books of condolence have been opened today in both the Everton One and Everton Two stores.
