Landon Donovan is set to make a sensational return to Goodison Park on loan, Everton Football Club have tonight announced.
Discussions have been taking place between LA Galaxy, Donovan's advisors and the Toffees in the last 72 hours leading to an agreement in principal to bring the USA international back to Merseyside on another two-month loan.
The 29-year old would be eligible to play in Everton's game against Bolton Wanderers on 4 January, with the loan lasting until after the Merseyside derby at Anfield on 25 February.
Blues boss David Moyes said he was delighted to have secured the services of Donovan, fresh from his league winning MLS season alongside David Beckham at the Galaxy.
Moyes said: "I am delighted that we have managed to get Landon back. He will give us some good experience over January and February.
"He did well for us when he was over two years ago and hopefully will return with those same qualities.
"His season has just finished and like last time we need him to hit the ground running because the games come thick and fast at this time of year."
Donovan enjoyed a highly successful spell at the Blues in 2010 fuelling speculation the American could make his move permanent that summer.
Although that transfer never materialised, Donovan said the chance to emulate his Premier League success of two years ago was too good to pass up.
He said: "The opportunity to return to Everton and play for such a well-respected club and a manager that I hold in such high regard was something that was simply too good to pass up.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Everton in 2010 and I'm hopeful that we can experience similar success this time around.
"I want to thank David Moyes and Bruce Arena, as well as executives from both clubs and Major League Soccer for allowing me this unique and special opportunity."
