Everton FC legend Graeme Sharp is lending his support to this year’s Liverpool Santa Dash and urging supporters to help the club turn the city blue this Christmas.
The Toffees official charity, Everton in the Community, is aiming to recruit 1878 fans to run the Santa Dash through Liverpool City centre and raise £50,000.
The race takes place the same day as Everton’s fixture against Stoke on Sunday 4th December and the club is offering supporters the chance to watch the game at a discounted price if they help to raise funds for Everton in the Community.
Supporters who don a blue Santa suit and complete the 5 kilometre course, will have the opportunity to buy a ticket for the Stoke match for just £15 for adults and £7.50 for juniors.
Although the two sporting events are on the same day, the race begins at 9.30am so there's
plenty of time to get to the game.
Sharp, who is a Fundraising Ambassador for Everton in the Community, said: “The Santa Dash is a great way for fans to show their colours and help raise money for a fantastic cause.
“I would love to see more blue than red Santas this year to turn the city blue for a day!”
If everyone raises a minimum of £25 for the race, the Community stands to garner close to £50k in vital funds for its wide-ranging schemes.
EFC Legend Joe Royle is also ‘Backing The Dash’ this year and is encouraging children to get involved in the event.
Royle paid a visit to Scarisbrick Hall School to get pupils to sign up for the Mini Santa Dash, a short 1km course specially designed for under 12’s.
Although the mini dash is for under 12’s, anyone can take part as they too can contribute to the World Record attempt as long as they wear the official Santa suit provided.
Joe said: “This is a massive date in the Liverpool calendar and anyone who can run it should run it! It will be another amazing day for the city.”
Lynda Headingly of Scarisbrick Hall School added: “This is a fabulous opportunity for the children to take part in such a massive event in the city.
“We are encouraging all our children and their families to Back the Dash and complete the run on 4th December to help Liverpool retain that all important title and raise much needed funds for local charities.”
The Santa Dash takes place on Sunday 4th December, beginning at 9:30am. The Mini Santa Dash begins 11am after the main race has concluded.
