David Moyes has welcomed the return of pacey Dutchman Royston Ricky Drenthe from suspension this week, as the Blues prepare for a tough trip to Newcastle.
The fleet footed winger scored on his only Premier League start for Everton at Fulham with a 25 yard screamer before picking up a Carling Cup red card which ruled him out of Everton's last outing, a home loss to Manchester United.
Despite displaying an unpredictable nature to his game, Drenthe has become a popular figure at the club bringing dynamism, and above all speed to the Toffees threadbare squad.
Those attributes, Moyes said, will be welcome back when his team make the journey north east.
He said: "Roy was suspended for the last game so hopefully he'll be available and ready to play.
"He gives us speed and that is important in any sport, but in football especially it can make a big difference.
"You also need to be able to use it at the end of it, you cant just be an olympic sprinter and play football you've got to be able to do things with it as well.
"Roy has showed glimpses and small signs in periods of the games, what we need to get him to do is to show that over a longer time.
"We've got to remember he's only just come here and he's settling in. But so far, we're quite pleased."
With an impressive CV which features a player of the tournament trophy at the European U-21 Championships for Holland followed by a 14m Euro move to the Santiago Bernabeu, the 24-year-old's arrival on Merseyside was a source of excitement for the transfer starved Evertonians.
But Moyes said he feels it's important for fans to temper their expectations of Drenthe while he still gets up to speed with Enflish foortball.
He said: "He's a really good player but he's still getting used to the Premier League and he's getting used to the speed and intensity which is required over here.
"And I've noticed that quite a bit in the games, there's been moments when he's very good and there's been other where you're thinking, "where are you Roy?" but all that's all just part of it."
Drenthe could be in line for a immediate return to the starting eleven with Tim Cahill, Phil Neville and Sylvain Distin's 'doubtful' status meaning Moyes is, again, short of numbers.
