John Heitinga has spoken openly about his desire to play European football, hinting that a summer transfer to achieve that feat is not out of the question.
The Dutchman, in typically straight talking fashion, spoke of his annoyance at missing out on Europe for a second successive season at Goodison.
He is not dismissing the possibility of a transfer before the start of next season, but said that playing out the remaining three years of his contract at Goodison is also a possibility.
Speaking to the Sun, he said: "I can honestly say I feel annoyed at having the day off when I'm on the couch watching Champions League football on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
"It's the same on Thursdays with the Europa League. European football is a big miss for me.
"Everton is a genuine big people's club. The atmosphere at Goodison is unrivalled, and I'm playing in a fantastic league.
"But I am ruling nothing out this summer.
"I have three years left on my contract and could see it through - but a new possibility could come up.
"In that case I will think about leaving."
Heitinga ruled out a return to boyhood club Ajax, saying that he plans to return there one day, but that his homecoming will not be this summer.
