Everton could land their first signing of the summer this week should Jay Bothroyd join the club as reports suggest.
The Cardiff striker, who top scored for the Championship side last year, is out of contract in South Wales and is ready to leave the club on a free transfer.
It is believed he has chosen Everton despite offers from Celtic and Sunderland, and could put pen to paper on a deal as soon as this week.
Bothroyd made headlines last year when Fabio Capello called him up for and England friendly against France despite him playing in the second tier of domestic football..
The well travelled 29-year-old began his career as a troublesome talent at Arsenal where he left after a falling out with coaching staff.
Despite that, a normally stubborn Arsene Wenger lauded the striker after his international call up last year, admitting that not persevering with Bothroyd may have been a mistake on the part of the Gunners.
Since leaving North London as a trainee the 6ft 2 striker has had spells in the Premier League with Blackburn and Stoke and also in Italy with blighted club Perugia.
Bothroyd, a two-footed finisher with good aerial ability, could represent a low risk acquisition for Moyes akin to that of Jermaine Beckford last season.
The Blues' boss is desperate to add attacking options to his side in the summer on the smallest of budgets.
The signing of the Cardiff man will soften the blow of losing out on German legend Miroslav Klose, who now looks likely to be playing his football on the continent next year.
