Travelling Evertonians are under threat from East Anglian swarms as they follow the Blues to Carrow Road this weekend, but it won’t be 70’s style football hooligans that have the Toffees on the run.
Norwich City fans have bemoaned the appearance of thousands of tiny black beetles which have been attracted to their home ground on match day; such is their liking for bright yellow.
The offending bug is the Pollen Beetle which lays its eggs in the flower buds of bright yellow flowers.
The critters, which feed on pollen, have been the talk of Canaries’ fan forums since the start of their pre season campaign, one fan said: “has anyone else had problems with bugs and the Norwich shirt?
“I never noticed before but I wore it a few times a month or so ago and was always mobbed by these little midge type fly things.
“Annoying, but at least they have good taste.”
Experts are as yet uncertain how the insects might react to the ‘lightning’ pink of the Blues new away kit, but Evertonians may want to be wary of the threat posed by beetles, rather than Canaries on Saturday.
