A new Liverpool boxing icon has been born.

The atmosphere at the Olympia for the eight-man Prizefighter tournament was electrified because of one man from Stockbridge Village.

Displaying tremendous power and amazing hand-speed, Rocky Fielding expertly disposed all three of his opponents inside the scheduled distance.

It’s the first time any Prizefighter has done so, but his record breaking doesn’t stop there.

The 23-year-old also becomes the most inexperienced winner of Matchroom Sports’ innovative event and doubled his perfect professional record to 6-0.

Kenny Anderson’s late withdrawal handed Fielding the chance to fight for the riches Prizefighter champions are accustomed to.

He brought with him a contingent of fans who chanted his name as he cashed a cheque for £32,000 and catapulted himself into the limelight.

Five days ago, he received the call and now big fights and title shots are on the horizon.

With four of Liverpool’s own fighting for the second super-middleweight’s crown, it was always had the potential to be a night to remember.

And Rocky from Stocky made it just that.

Where he goes from here is unclear, but the 23-year-old is not getting carried away.

“It’s a life-changing night,” said Fielding.

“The money is fantastic of course but I’ve crushed a good line-up here inside the distance with a big following watching me at late notice.

“I’m not going to jump the gun and say I want title shots and so-on – I’ve only had three fights before this and I know that.

“But as this showed, I’m always ready to fight and I’ll box anywhere and this will open big, big doors for me.

“I’ve always known that I have a big future in boxing and tonight was the springboard.”
