
Four Liverpool holiday-makers became unlikely celebrities, after they made a Facebook appeal for "Sayers Pasties" while stranded in Mumbai by the volcanic ash chaos.
The 'Mumbai Four', as they are now known, posted photos and appeals on the internet, telling the world how much would love to see a Sayers pasty, while they were stranded thousands of miles away in India.
Now that the four have arrived back in the UK, the Merseyside bakery have invited the four to officially open their new Liverpool branch, in Belle Vale on Friday 14th May.
Zoe Wallace, one of the Mumbai 4, said: "It was a frustrating five days for us but we couldn't believe the support we had back home.
"When I received a call from Sayers it was the icing on the cake, as we never imagined that our story would reach them.
"We're looking forward to giving a big hug to the woman from Sayers who was photographed with a sign saying come home soon the Mumbai four – I don’t think we’ve ever laughed so much in our lives before."
Fifteen children from nearby Our Lady of the Assumption primary school will be also attend, and singing for customers as they enjoy complimentary biscuits.
Michael Quinlan, Managing Director of Sayers said: "We're delighted to be opening this brand new cafe here in Belle Vale and have already received fantastic comments from passersby.
"The staff have been working very hard to get the cafe ready and I would like to thank them for their continued efforts.
"We're very proud of this New Style Cafe and feel that it truly demonstrates our commitment to Bellevale shopping centre and our loyal customers.
"As a company we have been interacting with customers on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and when we came across the post from Zoe, Paul and Michelle we wanted to do something to show our appreciation and welcome them home."
