Ricky Whittle, former Hollyoaks actor, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The Strictly Come Dancing star was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a photographer in the early hours of Friday morning on Duke Street.
Ricky was rushed from St Helens police station to attend an interview in London, and it is understood he will dance live on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.
A spokeswoman at the BBC Strictly Come Dancing press office confirmed Ricky will be performing on tomorrow's show.
She said: "The show will continue as normal tomorrow."
