Officers at Merseyside Police who lead the investigation into the murder of Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones are set to be honoured on Monday afternoon in a special ceremony.
Chief Constable Bernard Hogan-Howe will lead the ceremony, which will commend the work of 62 officers and support staff, whose investigation lead to the life imprisonment of Sean Mercer, 18.
Six others were convicted for their involvement, having assisted Mercer in concealing evidence and lying to police.
The ceremony takes place at Merseyside's Aintree racecourse, where each member of the team will receive a certificate of commendation to recognise their "outstanding work".
Most notably, Assistant Chief Constable Patricia Gallan will be recognised for her exceptional leadership on the day Rhys was shot, in the car park of the Fir Tree pub on the 22nd of August 2007.
Others set to receive honours include Merseyside Police detectives, and staff at the Crown Prosecution Service.
