Litter campaigners have blasted Coronation Street over characters throwing cigarette butts on the floor.
Brazen Becky McDonald and her husband Steve McDonald were seen flagrantly flicking cigarettes to the ground TWICE in a single episode.
Corrie producers claimed they DELIBERATELY showed Becky as a litter-lout as a way of conveying her "troubled" nature.
But the anti-social antics of the chain-smoking barmaid have got campaigners fuming and demanding that she should get a come-uppance.
Keep Britain Tidy campaigners slammed Corrie bosses for showing Becky treating the street 'like a giant ashtray.'
A spokeswoman said: "Discarded cigarette butts make our streets look dirty and unappealing, yet there are many ways to dispose of a butt responsibly, such as in a bin or by using a portable ashtray.
"It is disappointing that Coronation Street chooses to allow one of its characters to throw a butt on the floor and suggest that it is ok to treat our streets like a giant ashtray.
"We understand the writers are concerned with realism but Becky is a role model to many viewers.
"We all have a responsibility to keep our local area clean and we would hope that producers of programmes such as Coronation Street would support our call to encourage the public to keep our country tidy."
Bad girl Becky has been under stress after being arrested on her wedding day as cops found drugs and cash stuffed in her handbag.
Earlier this year, the actress who plays Becky, Katherine Kelly received awards as TV Soap Personality of the Year and Best Actress in her role as Becky.
George Monck, Chief Executive of CleanupUK, has called for Coronation Street to redeem themselves by broadcasting Becky receiving a fine for her littering.
He said: "Becky's behaviour on Coronation Street surprises me, as the show often ensures any immoral behaviour ends in punishment.
"I realise throwing away the odd fag end may not be considered immoral, but I think Becky should get some sort of come-uppance.
"A line could easily be included in the script showing Becky receiving a spot fine for dumping her cigarette ends in the street.
"This would send the right message to the British public.
"Cigarette ends is one of the most common items of litter, along with chewing gum.
"Sadly many cigarette smokers do not see throwing away their butts as an act of littering.
"It is disgusting how many fag ends pile up on our streets.
"Filter tips do not biodegrade and the clean up costs local councils thousands of pounds a year."
A spokeswoman for Coronation Street defended their decision to show Becky throwing away her cigarette.
She said: "Becky is a troubled character going through a troubled time. She did not think as she threw the cigarette down.
"Her behaviour is often irresponsible but this isn't the behaviour you'll see from the Street's other residents."
