A Liverpool radio talk show host has poured cold water on the idea that the city of Bath is a must see destination, after it finished second in a list of places "to visit before you die".
The West Country spa town came one place above the former UK Capital of Culture in a study by hotel chain Travelodge.
Breakfast presenter Duncan Barkes, from Liverpool radio station CityTalk 105.9 was flabbergasted by the findings.
"Bath has to be the single most tedious city in the UK.
"Just look at the sort of people who come from there. Here in Liverpool we have Paul McCartney and Steven Gerrard, Bath has some bloke from a 1980s coffee advert and Jason Dodd.
"When it comes to music how many people do you know who own a Tears for Fears album? They hardly compare to the Beatles do they?
"And don’t get me started on Peter Gabriel, he was so pointless his own bandmates thought they’d be better off with Phil Collins.
"They will claim their architecture is some of the finest in the world, but they didn’t suffer during the war like Liverpool did."
Liverpool’s undergone a major transformation since the turn of the millennium, with the new Liverpool One, billion pound shopping complex, and the transformation of the world famous Pier Head, while Bath enjoys some of the best natural spas in the world.
Barkes added: “To say people would like to visit Bath before they die is ironic, because the road network there is so bad you’ll do well even to find a parking space.
“Liverpool is the world’s greatest city, the millions of people who visit here each year will vouch for that. To finish below Bath is a sham.
“If you ask me its time to pull the plug on Bath.”
These were the cities Britons most wanted to visit before dying according to hotel chain Travelodge:
1. Edinburgh
2. Bath
3. Liverpool
4. Belfast
5. Glasgow
6. Oxford
7. London
8. Cardiff
9. York
10.Cambridge
