Liverpool will host the Labour Party annual conference in 2011 - putting the city's BT Conference Centre and Echo Arena in the national spotlight.

The decision provides for a broadening of the Labour Party's conference venues. After being the first political party to hold its conference in Manchester, Labour breaks new ground taking its conference to Liverpool.

The move will be seen as a massive boost for the city's growing reputation as a conference and tourism destination and underlines the fact that it now boast a huge number of quality hotel beds.

Labour's Annual Conferences could mean millions of pounds for the regions' economies. Labour's 2006 Manchester Conference generated over £15m of economic benefit for the region.

Ray Collins, Labour Party General Secretary, said: "The Labour Party's Annual Conference is the highlight of the party's year, a time when party members come together to discuss how to achieve Labour's vision of a fair future for all.

"Bournemouth, Liverpool, and Manchester provide state-of-the-art venues for Labour Ministers and party members to shape Labour's solutions to the challenges that Britain faces.

"Labour broke new ground when we held conference in Manchester in 2006 and in 2011 we will be the first party to visit Liverpool.

"New host cities provide us with the opportunity to broaden potential conference venues and the people that attend. Listening to the people has always been at the heart of Labour Party conference and we are delighted to be visiting these cities. "

Manchester and Bournemouth will be host cities for the Labour Conference in succeeding years.
