A 14-year-old boy has been shot in the leg in Croxteth, a mile away from the spot Rhys Jones was murdered.
The teenager was shot in the leg in Storrington Avenue at around 10.30pm Sunday night. He was taken to hospital and treated for injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.
Storrington Avenue is located a short distance from the Fir Tree pub, where tragic 11-year-old Rhys Jones was shot as he walked home from football practice in August 2007.
Merseyside police have arrested four youths, aged 15 and 18 and two aged 19, and a 28-year-old man and have recovered a firearm.
High-visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area around the shooting and the scene was cordoned off for forensic examinations.
A Merseyside police spokesman said: "At this time the motive for the shooting is unclear."
Detectives investigating the shooting urge anyone with information to call their Matrix team on 0151 777 56 99 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
