
Former Brookside Actress Sue Johnston receives an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours at Buckingham Palace.
Warrington-born Sue, 65, who also appeared in the hit TV drama The Royle Family, has said she was 'delighted and honoured' to be made an OBE.
She added: "I am delighted. I am sorry my parents are not here, as they would have been so proud."
The former Tax Inspector has been recognised for her services to drama and to charity.
She became a household name when she spent eight years playing Sheila Grant in the popular Liverpool soap, Brookside.
Since then she has appeared in many drama series including, Inspector Morse, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, My Uncle Silas and big budget films like Brassed Off.
Johnston recently starred as couch potato Jim Royle's wife, in which she plays a heavy chain smoker Barbara, in the Caroline Aherne written drama.
An avid Liverpool Fc fan, sue is now completely anti-smoking and has been a long-time gay rights campaigner.
In 2004, she appeared in one episode of the series Who Do You Think You Are?, in which she traced back her family tree.
Recently, Sue has supported the campaign to free jailed Liverpool fan, Michael Shields.
