Record-breaker Mark Roberts has told why he staged a "protest streak" at Liverpool's Royal Court Theatre.

His naked demonstration happened when he marched on stage during a play that features an ACTOR performing a scene in which Mark - the streaker - appears as a character.

Mark, 39, has performed a record number of times, including appearances the American Superbowl, Wimbledon, and the Grand National as he as become a worldwide celebrity.

He rose to fame in when he did a live streak and swim on TV weatherman Fred Talbot's map on the This Morning programme at the Albert Dock in Liverpool in 1995.

But his most recent stunt at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool was far more personal since he streaked the scene of a streak in " Night Collar" - the play about the trials and tribulations of a taxi driver.

Mark says he did it because he was annoyed that he had not been offered the chance to audition to play the role himself.

Said Mark: "I thought it was damn cheeky that they had a play on stage in Liverpool with an actor playing the part of me and never even asked whether I wanted to take part.

"So I decided to go down there and jump on the stage to see how good he was at ad-libbing.

"In fact he seemed to enjoy it and we had a good chat. I think the audience enjoyed it too since they got more than they bargained for."

Mark remained on stage for more than a minute - as you can see in the video of his antics - and he has now revealed that the streak was a family affair, since his mother Patricia was in the audience.

Said Mark: "I'd been sitting a few rows behind her before I streaked and had to keep hiding behind a programme so she did not spot me. I think you could have knocked her down with a feather when I jumped on stage naked."

Said Patricia: "Mark's a grown man and there is nothing I can do to stop him streaking. It's become a way of life for him, he enjoys it and I don't think it offends people these days."

Mark started streaking in 1993 when he bragged in a Hong Kong bar - after watching a female streaker at a rugby match - that anybody could do it. He accepted the challenge and made his first streak the next day. More than 300 streaks later, the rest is history.
