A man left a suicide note telling of his torment at the hands of a hateful gossips who falsely fingered him as James Bulger killer Robert Thompson.

English-born Scott Bradley was driven to despair by a hate campaign in a seaside town in Scotland accusing him of being a child killer an paedophile.

The body of the 36 year-old, originally from Bury, was found by his distraught mother Sue near Garlieston, Galloway.

In a heartbreak suicide note Scott blamed bullies who had made his life a misery with malicious rumours branding him as James Bulger's killer.

In the note Scott, who was born in Bury, near Manchester wrote: "They called me all sorts - a paedophile, a follower of young girls, accused me of going around bullying old people.

"The list is endless. And I'm supposed to be a child killer."

His mother Sue said the last few months of her son's life were a "living hell" and associated the rumours with a play penned by Scottish comedian Des Dillon.

Dillon's drama "Village of the Damned" is centred on the reintegration of one of James Bulger's evil killer's into society in Galloway.

The author claimed that the work was "entirely fictitious" but it led to a wave of panic in the small western Scottish town that is being linkied to Scott Bradley's death.

His mother Sue said: "I don't know why it started but we know how it's ended.

"My son was tormented by the allegations. He had a good heart and didn't deserve this.

"It's heartbreaking.

"Des Dillon started these rumours and for the last 12 months or so the pressure just built up on Scott.

"I don't blame Dillon on his own but he has started the ball rolling and others took it on.

"These nasty people stuck the knife in and twisted it. I hope these people are happy with what they've done."

Robert Thompson and Jon Venables were both 10 years-old when they abducted, tortured and murdered two year-old James Bulger in Liverpool in 1993.

They were released from prison when they turned 18 and Thompson has lived under an assumed identity somewhere in the UK without re-offending.

But Venables was recalled to prison in 2010 for child pornography offences.

Mother of the murdered toddler Denise Fergus, 43, blamed Scott Bradley's death on the official annonymity afforded to her son's killers.

Denise said: "I'm shocked and upset that Scott Bradley has apparently taken his own life after being wrongly identified as Robert Thompson.

"Whatever the rights and wrongs of this case, if ever a lesson were needed, this is one that shows how dangerous it is to spread false rumours and gossip about something as serious as the identity of child killers.

"It is clearly a matter for the police in Scotland to decide whether there is any crime connected with the harrassment that Scott seems to have undergone.

"What happened to him makes my blood run cold. But I have always said is that the decision to put Thompson and Venables in society under secret identities is playing with fire and putting the lives of others at risk.

"Sadly Scott's death goes to show that it is other people who are left to suffer as a result of the official conspiracy, lies and deceit that the authorties have used in this case."

Playwright Dillon was unavailable for comment about the suicide of Scott Bradley.

But the 52 year-old was slammed in June for announcing he had had inquiries from top Hollywood producers to make his play into a big budget thriller.

He claimed that police had visited his home in Galloway after receiving complaints from a man who complained the main character in his play was based on him.

At that time Dillon said: "The police came round days after I posted the play on the internet and asked me if it was this guy, or that guy, or this guy.

"I shook my head and said 'no', the play is based on Robert Thompson and it is a fictional story with fictional characters.

"Plays have been written about controversial subjects for centuries and you can't lock me up for that.

"It would be a mad state of affairs if I was. I'd be the first writer to be arrested for a play in 300 years in Britain."

Galloway and Dumfries police have not confirmed if Scott Bradley was the man who complained about Des Dillon's play.

A spokesperson was unavailable for comment until Wednesday morning.
