Explosion rips through Liverpool home on Christmas Day

Residents of Huyton were given a rude awakening on Christmas morning, but it wasn't Santa's sleigh causing all the commotion when an explosion ripped the roof off a suburban house.

Merseyside Police called responded to reports of a fire at the detached house at around 6.55am with fire crews joining soon after.

Incredibly nobody was hurt in the blast but nearby homes in Huyton had to be evacuated.

A man has been arrested as police investigate the incident.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "Officers are in attendance in

Tarbock Road, Huyton, following an incident at an address.

'Emergency services were called at around 6.55am to reports of a fire at the address.

'A house has been extensively damaged but there are no reports of any injuries.

'Surrounding houses have been evacuated as a precaution.

'Officers are working with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service to fully establish the cause of the fire and would urge motorists to avoid the area.

'A man has been arrested in connection with this incident. However, at this stage his address and age is unknown.'
