
Family and friends of the teenage girl stabbed to death at her home in Liverpool have taken part in a candlelit vigil outside the house where she was attacked.
Police were called to the home Hill Street in Toxteth, the home of 19-year-old Natalie O’Donoghue at 3.50pm on Saturday after neighbours had reported a disturbance.
Officers discovered the teenager and her 60-year-old mother, identified locally as Violet Burns, both suffering from stab wounds, they were rushed to hospital where Miss O’Donoghue later died.
A Home Office post mortem examination revealed Miss O'Donoghue had died from bleeding from a single wound.
Police have arrested a 50-year-old man, believed to be the Ms Burns brother, the uncle of Miss O’Donoghue, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Violet Burns remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Last night grieving friends and family of the teenager gathered around the semi-detached house which is still cordoned off by police who are carrying out forensic examinations.
Inside the police tape, flowers and candles were laid on the drive were loved ones consoled one another into the night.
Police have yet to establish a motive for the attack.
