Liverpool has been named as Britain’s best nightlife destination by the world's biggest travel website.
The City has topped a poll by visitors using TripAdvisor, who review the tourist destinations from across the world.
As well as bars and nightclubs, the criteria also taken into account are the City’s wider nighttime economy including restaurants, live music venues, comedy clubs and theatres.
TripAdvisor’s Best Nightlife Destinations is based on the average ratings TripAdvisor users gave each UK destination in the nightlife category when submitting a review during 2011*.
Liverpool topped the poll, with Manchester taking second place and London rated third (see Notes to Editors for Top 10).
Liverpool’s musical heritage is legendary worldwide, and this is evident in the venues attracting nighttime visitors. Specific venues singled out for praise include The Cavern Club and Royal Court Theatre. Albert Dock, Liverpool Cathedral and the Walker Art Gallery have also been highlighted as key daytime attractions to visit.

It’s a City that welcomes visitors and appeals to all ages and all budgets.”
