The discovery of a "suspicious bag" caused Manchseter Airport to evacuate a terminal this morning.

Police discovered the package in the security area where hand luggage is scanned in Terminal One.

Vehicles are now being stopped from entering or leaving the area surrounding the terminal in what police have called a 'standard precautionary measure' in the event of a bomb threat.

Staff at the airport have warned the scare is likely to have a knock-on effect on traffic coming and going from the Terminal during he day.

An airport spokesman said: "Disruption to flights arriving and departing from Terminal One is likely this morning while we resolve the situation.

"An evacuation is a standard precautionary measure while the investigation is completed to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff."
