A cheating newlywed who murdered his wife during "rough sex" went on the run after he was found out by police, a court heard.
Michael Roberts, 26, strangled wife Vicky after their relationship went downhill following his infidelities in 29th November 2009.
Roberts claimed that "happy" and "caring" Vicky died accidentally after he was pretending to strangle her with her dressing gown cord as part of a sex game, Liverpool Crown Court heard.
But the prosecution claim his story was "a fabrication concocted by him to cover up what really happened".
The mobile phone salesman at Phones4U carried out a "devious and clever" plan trying to cover up his crime by behaving as if nothing had happened, using Vicky's phone to send "bogus messages" to worried friends and family.
But the love cheat, who sat weeping in the dock in a black suit and purple-striped tie, was found out after Vicky's dad put in a call to police reporting her missing.
By this time Roberts had transported his wife dead's body from the couple's flat to a nearby garage after visiting Asda and B&Q to buy tape, refuse bags and insulation sheets.
Prosecuting David Steer QC said: "All of these purchases were made with a view to wrapping and binding his wife's body.
"On the night of Tuesday 1st December or Wednesday 2nd neighbours heard noises coming from the defendant's garage.
"At some stage the defendant performed the difficult and risky task of moving the body from their third floor flat to the garage where he concealed it, wrapped and bound beneath a duvet."
On the morning of Thursday 3rd December, the 26-year-old was contacted by police and told that officers would be visiting the flat in Runcorn.
Cheshire Police looked round the flat and even checked the garage finding no clues to Vicky's whereabouts.
Thinking that he had bought himself some time, the mobile phone salesman returned to work leaving his dead wife in the garage as if nothing had happened.
But to his surprise officers returned later on that evening and asked to see inside the garage.
Detectives checked Vicky's Honda Civic and noticed a yellowy orange duvet, underneath which was his wife's body in silver bags.
Realising he had been found out, the newlywed husband fled the scene sparking a police man hunt.
The jury of eight men and four women heard how the 26-year-old having evaded arrest gave false names and addresses to check into hotels in Chester, Nantwich and Wrexham.
On Sunday 6th December, one week after he had murdered his wife, Roberts was reprimanded by police after a colleague at Phones4U spotted him walking in the street.
As he was getting into the police car the distraught defendant reportedly said: "I didn't mean to do it."
Roberts denies murdering his wife. The trial continues and is expected to last up to four weeks.
