Labour leadership contender Diane Abbott has lent her backing to the campaign to save from demolition the birthplace of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
The bulldozers are set to destroy the terraced house in Madryn Street, Liverpool, where Richard Starkey entered the world on 7th July 1940.
Huge Beatles fan Diane declared herself in favour of saving Ringo's house after speaking at a community work and education project in Liverpool.
The MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington said: "I have always been a huge Beatles fan. I grew up listening to them and still do to this day.
"As a tourist attraction, they are of the utmost importance to the city of Liverpool as people come from all over the world to visit the famous Beatles sites.
"Providing a viable scheme can be found I would be in favour of preserving Ringo's house. If possible it should be preserved not bulldozed."
The solid left wing candidate is the outside bet to succeed Gordon Brown with Milliband brothers David and Ed looking most likely to take the gong of Labour leader.
