
Liverpool's first count of the night saw veteran Labour MP Louise Ellman secure victory in the Riverside constituency for the fourth consecutive General Election.
Ellman, 64, retained her seat with 22,998 votes, an increased majority of 1.24% on the 2005 election.
Thanking the returning officer, Lord Mayor Mike Storey, and the election officials, Mrs Ellman said: "I would like to thank the people of Liverpool Riverside for showing once again their faith in the Labour Party.
“The people of Riverside have prospered under Labour and I promise to increase prosperity under whatever government is elected in this General Election."
Liverpool Riverside recorded a turnout of 52.05%, a 9.61% increase on 2005 although still the lowest turnout of all the Liverpool constituencies.
