Labour maintained it's stranglehold on the North West as MP Maria Eagle was re-elected for a fourth consecutive term.
Despite being embroiled in the 2009 expenses scandal, Eagle, 49, retained her seat with a majority of 16,877 votes, almost double her majority in 2005.
Thanking her supporters, Ms Eagle said: "I’m extremely proud that we in Garston and Halewood have made very clear by the votes cast this evening that Labour is the party trusted by the people to make sure their lives are improved over the next five years.
"Whatever finally comes out of this election, I’m grateful to be able to serve them again as their MP and I will make sure that the progress we have seen in South Liverpool will continue to the extent it can be under whatever government is elected."
Ms Eagle, a justice minister, secured a 39.4% majority over nearest rival, Liberal Democrat candidate Paula Keaveney.
