Thousands of women hit the road today as a part of the Women's 5k Challenge.

The atmosphere was electric as Liverpool's Sefton Park was swamped with women, each running on behalf of various charities.

The fantastic event, hosted by Adidas allowed women of all ages to run and walk the 5k in a brilliant carnival atmosphere.

Each year over 30,000 women take the streets in Liverpool, Birmingham and London to run 3 miles to raise money.

Liverpool Women's 5k Challenge this year was won by a Miss Kirsty Langley from Litherland, who ran on behalf of Cancer Research UK.

Tracey Owen, who ran in the race on behalf of James Bulger's Red Balloon Appeal claimed it was wonderful to see so many people get involved.

Tracey, from Netherley said: "Its such a wonderful event, its lovely to see so many women come together for charity.

"Women of all ages get involved, its a great spectacle.

"This is the second year in a row for me and I plan to take part again next year."
