Bogus tickets for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 have are being touted for #1000 each on internet sites.
The star-studded event takes place on Thursday 6th November at Liverpool's new Echo Arena.
But organisers are warning fake tickets are being sold on the internet.
Estimates suggest the Liverpool Arena's 10,000 seat capacity means few tickets will go on public sale.
Approximately a third will be taken up by extended staging and camera positions. A further third will be tickets given to sponsors.
The remaining third will be available to the public only after those allocated to competition winners which will account for a considerable number of places.
Sales of legitimate tickets are due to be announced within weeks, but a number of websites have already advertised VIP packages, costing more than #1,000 per person.
Tim Banfield, the Arena's general manager, said: "These tickets are not genuine.
"Official tickets do not go on sale until September and details of how to buy them will be announced in the press over the next few weeks.
"We stress to all fans only to purchase tickets for all Liverpool Echo Arena events through legitimate organisations."
