A man has been critically injured after apparently throwing himself in front of a bus.
The incident happened in Thursday morning rush hour traffic on Aigburth Road by the junction of Roxburgh Avenue, opposite the Territorial Army barracks.
Eye-witnesses said the pedestrian, believed to be a local man in his 30s, deliberately stepped out in front of the oncoming Arriva bus.
The driver of the Number 60 service, which was headed back to Aigburth Vale from Bootle, was left badly shaken.
The victim was taken to the Royal Liverpool hospital with multiple injuries. He remains in a critical condition.
The incident caused rush-hour chaos as Aigburth Road was closed in both directions for some time while investigations took place.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "At around 6.45am officers were called to Aigburth Road following reports from a motorist that a bus had been in collision with a pedestrian.
"No-one else was injured during the incident but the driver of the bus was left extremely shaken."
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 0151 777 6010.
