A Liverpool FC supporters group have embarked on a city-wide billboard campaign in their latest effort to rid the club of current owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
The Reds find themselves with £237 million debt following loans taken out by the Americans, and need to repay £100 million in order to extend their current agreement with the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Anfield managing director Christian Purslow revealed last month that he was in discussions with five potential investors who would be able to assist in reducing the club's deficit ahead of this summer's renewal.
Supporters have become frustrated by the failure of the duo to adhere to pledges that they would back manager Rafael Benitez and that their takeover in 2007 would ensure that the club remained debt-free.
The Spirit of Shankly fans' union have strongly opposed Gillett and Hicks' ownership of Liverpool and have now unveiled advertisements for the group as part of an ongoing campaign against the Americans.
Members of the group targeted several internet message boards last Friday but refused to elaborate, choosing only to write the acronym "D. L. C."
On Monday, a series of billboards proclaiming "Tom and George - Debt, Lies, Cowboys" appeared on billboards in various locations across Liverpool including roads leading into, and the city centre itself.
SOS spokesman James McKenna said: “The message is to remind people Hicks and Gillett are not welcome here.
“It educates about what we think they are doing to our club and the feedback so far is very positive.”
The group forced the resignation of Tom Hicks Jr, son of the Texan co-owner, from the Anfield board in January after he sent an abusive and unprovoked email to a supporter.
