The older brother of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has today (TUES) had more than £1000 confiscated as the alleged "proceeds of crime" in a drug-dealing probe.

Paul Gerrard, 32, was arrested in a raid on his Merseyside home after detectives allegedly seized a significant quantity of cannabis and banknotes.

Gerrard was released on police bail after being quizzed at Huyton police station on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Detectives today (TUES) went before Knowsley Magistrates Court today and obtained an interim order confiscating cash seized, which is said to be the proceeds of crime.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a 32-year-old man from the Huyton area was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

"He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"In relation to this investigation an order was obtained today, under the Proceeds of Crime Act, to confiscate a quantity of cash, in excess of one thousand pounds."

Paul Gerrard was arrested last Friday, the day after he celebrated his 32nd birthday with family and friends.

Gerrard, 29, who lives in Freshfield, 12 miles away from his brother's home, is not involved in the police inquiries.
