Chelsea FC came under fire from angry Liverpool supporters over an article on an official club website that labelled Liverpool fans "murderers".
The offending blog on www.chelseafc.com, written under the pen-name "Avanti", claimed that Reds followers 'got away with murder' during at Heysel Stadium in May 1985.
Thirty nine Juventus supporters were killed in Brussels following the collapse of a wall in the ground before the European Cup final between Liverpool and the Italian side, amidst violent skirmishes on the terraces.
The blogger said: "These are the fans who literally got away with murder at the Heysel Stadium in 1985, and who two years ago went close to creating another Hillsborough tragedy in Athens.
"These are the fans who scream to high heaven about Justice for Michael Shields but don't lift a finger to bring the true culprit to book. Evidently the Rule of Law only applies to other people."
Liverpool fan Frank Jones, 37, said: "It's completely out of order for Chelsea to be carrying these untruthful and distored comments on an official web site.
"No doubt they got a lot of complaints from angry Liverpool fans but it was up for a couple of days before they relised the mistake. They should be more careful what they publish on their web site."
Following the complaints from Liverpool fans, the Barclays Premier League leaders removed the posting from the website.
The incident follows one in July when Chelsea distanced itself from American radio broadcaster Steven Cohen, when the London-born DJ made offensive remarks about the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy which cost the lives of 96 Liverpool supporters.
