The murderer of Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones has been placed in solitary confinement after stabbing another inmate at a young offenders' institute.
Sean Mercer, 18, attacked Jake Fahri with a pair of sharpened tweezers during a scuffle in the exercise yard of Doncaster's Moorlands Young Offenders Institute.
It has also emerged that Mercer, who is serving a life sentence for gunning down schoolboy Rhys in Croxteth two years ago, had held the weapon together with tape whilst a fellow inmate held down Fahri, leaving the 19-year-old covered in blood and requiring hospital treatment.
Fahri was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years for slashing the throat of Jimmy Mizen, 16, in a London bakery in May 2008.
Prison sources have revealed that the Liverpool teen's attack was not an isolated incident and they have had to detain him on numerous occasions.
A Prison Service spokesman said: “On Monday November 2 a fight broke out between three prisoners at Moorlands YOI.
“Staff acted quickly to control the situation.
“One prisoner was taken to an outside hospital for treatment.”
South Yorkshire Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
