
Four people were being quizzed by police after a man was blasted with bullets outside a pub in the Liverpool city region.
Darren Delaney, 23, was hit as he left The Kingfisher pub in Kirkby, on Friday night and was left fighting for his life in hospital after emergency surgery.
Paramedics and police had answered 999 calls at 10.10pm and rushed to the scene in Bewley Drive, where Darren was found outside the pub with gunshot wounds to his chest and stomach.
He was taken to Antree University Hospital where his condition was described as "critical".
The pub and carpark were cordoned-off to allow forensic examination and house to house enquires were being carried out in the area.
High visibility patrols were put on duty in a bid to provide reassurance to the community.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody.
"They are a 20-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and a 51-year-old man, and a 47-year-old woman, all from the Kirkby area.
"Detectives are treating this as a targeted attack and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or has any other information about it, to call the Merseyside Police Guncrime Hotline on 0800 4211 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
