Michael Shields, the Liverpool Football Club fan who was given a Royal Pardon earlier this month, releases the full details of his ordeal today in his book, "Michael Shields - My Story".

The 22 year-old Wavertree-man, who spent four years behind bars after being wrongly convicted of a crime he did not commit, worked with Liverpool ECHO journalist Greg O'Keefe on the title which is set to be a local best seller.

O'Keefe was in regular contact with Shields throughout his imprisonment and the title is said to be a frank and honest account.

Shields was hauled out of his hotel room bed shortly after an attack on a waiter in the Bulgarian resort of Varna in May 2005. He has always maintained his innocence and in the days following the assault another man admitted to the crime.

This admission was never considered in court and the trial was at the time described as a "kangaroo court", attracting disdain from political figures, religious leaders and human rights group Fair Trials Abroad.

The book goes on sale at 9am this morning, priced £8.99.
